We took Shayla to St. Alphonsus RMC today at 2:00 for admitting and surgery prep. Jase had valet parking take care of the car.
We met Dr. Eric (anesthesiologist). Very nice guy, great bed-side manner. He promised to take good care of Shayla.
Pre-op: Shayla doesn't like needles. Period. The IV was successfully started on the left hand. This was a struggle (it was the third nurse to look at her veins who was able to get the line in. The first wouldn't even try, the second tried and failed).
Shayla was given a sedative to help her relax, but I don't think it really achieved that goal. She was not comfortable even as she was wheeled out of her pre-op room.
Post-op Meeting with Dr. Beck:
The surgery only took 30 minutes and Dr. Beck met with Jase and I while Shayla was in recovery.
Dr. Beck is still not sure about what we are dealing with. However, she wants us to be prepared. This may be malignant. That being said, she has the best doctor (Dr. Chang--Mountain States Tumor Institute at St. Luke's in Boise) in her opinion, working with the pathology to determine what it is that has set up house in Shayla's sinuses.
This is not news we expected. However, both Jase and I feel strangely calm at this point. We know Heavenly Father is aware of Shayla, hears our prayers and knows our needs and will take care of us. Now we are praying for good results from pathology.
Coming out of surgery:
It took Shayla about 3 hours to come out of anesthesia. She was pretty wiped out. Her head felt very heavy and it took turning on the t.v. in the room to get her to keep her eyes open. We finally left about 8:00 p.m.
Turned out to be a long day for all of us.
