Changing of the Guard

It is Dad's turn to stay with Shayla at the hospital for the next two days. Mom has to go to work tomorrow, so Jase is now with Shayla and that makes her happy. She asked a couple of times today "when is Dad going to be here?" I know she connects well with him and we are lucky his work schedule is such that he can also spend some time with Shayla while she is undergoing treatment.

This chemo treatment is going better for Shayla. She is tired, but looks like her body is doing much better with the medication. Her eyes aren't so heavy, and her demeanor is brighter, too. We are glad to see it. Thank you for the prayers for strength in her behalf.

The Inevitable:

This morning Shayla announced that her hair is starting to fall out. And it is. We can run our fingers through her cute short haircut and get a good number of strands between them. There was a small amount in the sink after we washed her hair. She has been finger-combing it much of the day to get the loose strands out because when they fall on her neck or arms they tickle and annoy! Now she has a green "CUREchief" from the hospital she can wear on her head, and Dad brought her hat from home to wear. She prefers the brown cap with the butterflies on it.

Shayla will get the 4th of 5 chemo doses tomorrow morning at 7:30, then the last one for this round on Tuesday at 3:30 a.m. which means she should be able to come home late Tuesday morning. Yippee!!

Shayla's sisters really want to visit her in the hospital. Her brothers have had that opportunity each time she has been in to help administer the Sacrament to both of us on Sundays, so their desire to see her in the hospital is not so strong. Jase and I think we will have Family Night together in the hospital tomorrow. By that time Shayla should be feeling a little less tired from the chemo and we can keep it short, but long enough for her sisters to see that the hospital is taking care of her.

Now it is time to rest. Tomorrow is another busy day!
