A New Room

After being in the same room for the last 3 chemo sessions we were given a new room with a view for Round 6. It is quieter than the last room, and big enough. We still have a big window, this one facing more north-east, but we still get to see the foothills.

We are doing well today. Shayla was able to get the chemo drugs started a little sooner yesterday than the previous session, so we hope to be able to get home before midnight on Monday. Last night she was feeling a bit nauseated, and got that taken care of. Next time Dr. Hansen does the chemo orders we need to make sure he orders the scopalamine patch Dr. Chang usually does. That makes the difference.

Family News:
We got word this morning that Shayla's great-grandma Thora French passed away this morning at 1:00 a.m. It was expected by the family yesterday. Looks like we will be traveling to a funeral next weekend instead of a family reunion already planned. The good thing is that the extended family had already been planning a trip in this direction because of our family reunion here in Boise so they will just take a little longer jaunt up to Rexburg/Roberts for the funeral.

The Relay for Life is tonight and tomorrow. Our family will be going at 6pm to represent Shayla. I will let you know how it goes. Too bad Shayla won't be able to go and represent herself as a survivor! There is still time to donate to the American Red Cross if you would like to. Part 2 Plans starting to get a little clearer:
Jase spoke with Dr. Chang briefly Wednesday, and I had the chance to do so yesterday at the clinic before Shayla's admit. It looks like surgery is going to be the first choice (but that is still not definitive). Dr. Beck told Dr. Chang she is confident that they could get negative margins on all areas surrounding the tumor except one, the superior (the one by the cribriform plate). That is the one they are waiting on Dr. Cherney's opinion. So, since he is on vacation this week and Dr. Beck is on vacation next, it will be a few weeks before all the 'heads' get together. I have requested at that point that Jase and I are included in the decision-making process so we have all the options laid out and can participate in the process. After all, Shayla is our daughter. We are keenly interested in what is done to and for her. Dr. Chang (and Dr. Beck) said that doing sugery does not mean we lose the option for radiation and vice versa. We are trying to be patient as we wait for clarity.
